General Questions

Electrical Power for Heroes is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing free and/or discounted electrical services to disabled veterans. Our mission is to enhance the safety, functionality, and accessibility of their homes and businesses.

Disabled veterans often face unique challenges, including financial strain and physical limitations, which can make essential home repairs like electrical work difficult to afford or manage. We believe that ensuring a safe and functional electrical environment is a fundamental way to support those who have bravely served our nation.

We operate through the generous support of donations, and the dedication of skilled volunteers and professionals. Our process involves an online application, thorough vetting, on-site assessments, and professional execution of electrical work. You can learn more on our “Our Services” page.

Our goal is to provide services at no cost to eligible disabled veterans whenever possible. In some cases, a discounted rate may apply depending on the complexity of the project, available funding, or specific material costs, but our primary aim is to significantly reduce or eliminate the financial burden for recipients.

Do I Qualify?

Our services are strictly for disabled veterans who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces and have a disability rating from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) or Department of Defense (DOD).

Currently, our services are focused exclusively on disabled veterans. While we deeply appreciate the sacrifices of all first responders, our current resources and mission are specifically allocated to the veteran community.

As part of our application process, we require applicants to attest to their disabled veteran status and provide specific information (e.g., last four digits of SSN/VA File Number, branch of service). If your application progresses, we will request official documentation, such as a VA Disability Award Letter or other relevant military discharge papers (like DD214 with disability information), for secure verification.

No. While you must confirm your disabled veteran status with official documentation, we do not require you to disclose specific medical diagnoses or details of your disability on our application form. We respect your privacy regarding your health information.

Yes, you may still qualify. Eligibility is based on having any recognized disability rating from the VA or DOD, not necessarily a 100% rating. The specific level of disability does not, by itself, determine eligibility for our services.

How Our Process Works

After you apply online, we review your application for initial eligibility. If approved, we’ll schedule an interview, followed by an on-site assessment to plan the work. We schedule and then complete the electrical services. A final walkthrough ensures your satisfaction.

All electrical work is performed by licensed and qualified electricians who adhere to the highest industry standards and local electrical codes. Our priority is safety, durability, and professionalism.

The timeline can vary depending on several factors, including the volume of applications, the complexity of the electrical work, permit approval times (if required), and the availability of our teams. We strive to complete projects as efficiently as possible and will keep you informed of the estimated timeline throughout the process.

Volunteer & Career Opportunities Questions

We are always looking for passionate and skilled individuals to join our team! You can express your interest by visiting our “Get Involved” page (or a dedicated section you create) and filling out our volunteer inquiry form. We welcome a range of skills, from licensed electricians to administrative support.

Our primary need is for licensed electricians and apprentices who can assist with on-site electrical work. However, we also have opportunities for volunteers to help with administrative tasks, fundraising, community outreach, grant writing, and event support. We strive to match your skills and interests with our needs.

Not for all roles! While licensed electricians are crucial for our core services, individuals with other skills in administration, marketing, event planning, or general support can also make a significant difference. Please indicate your skills on your volunteer inquiry form.

Occasionally, we may have paid positions available as our organization grows. Any open career opportunities will be posted on our “Careers” page and relevant job boards. Please check these resources regularly for updates.

For volunteers, after submitting an inquiry form, our volunteer coordinator will contact you to discuss available roles and next steps, which may include a brief interview and background check. For career positions, please follow the application instructions provided in each specific job posting.

The time commitment varies greatly depending on the role. Some opportunities might be project-based or for specific events, while others could involve a more regular commitment. We work with our volunteers to find a schedule that fits both their availability and our organizational needs.
